All's Fair in Love and Shakespeare
The highlight of our summer was producing this innaugural Pop-Up Shakes production of All's Fair in Love and Shakespeare, a new comedy written and directed by our Artistic Director Amelia Fischer, featuring beloved scenes by William Shakespeare.
"Who knew New York City wasn’t big enough for two Macbeths?"
-- MACREADY, All's Fair in Love and Shakespeare
This dream play centers on Victorian historical figures William Macready, Charlotte Cushman, and Helena Faucit as they attempt to champion compassion against the surging tide of division that caused the Astor Place Riot. During their individual journeys, they are swept into scenes from Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing, Cymbeline, and more.
The joy of our production
was feeling the energy of our community turning up to activate two different art galleries and support live theatre. Tickets included a half hour of mingle time to check out the artwork, enjoy hors d'ouvres and drinks, and listen to our actor/cellist: the infinitely talented Ruth Mehari. After the performance, our audience was joined by the cast for a reception. This experience was the a dream come true for our company, creating a dynamic way for our community to get out, get social, and get Shakespeare.
Many thanks to our Venue Partners
To our stage manager, Madilyne Bagnoche, and to our cast
